Ok, so we all know this forum/group has atrophied a bit over the last two months with the conclusion of the GT3 Race League hosted over the Summer. A few other ideas were tossed about since then but never resulted in anything. I'm about ready to start up another series if the interest is there.
If you're interested, please reply below or send me a msg over Xbox Live.
What I'm thinking of is a shorter 5/6-week series with 2 races per week. Whatever class we end up using would have it's main race on either Saturday or Sunday late in the day. There would also be a weekday sprint event using a different car type.
So far I'm thinking the "Main Class" will be some less than top-tier class, such as LMP2, GT4, Formula C/Gulf1000, LMP900, or something like that to-be-determined. These "Main Events" would be 60-90 minute races with qualifiers ahead of time, and run much the same as my previous GT3 series. If a class is chosen instead of a specific car, drivers will be locked to the car of their choice within that class for the duration of the series.
My idea for the "Sprint Race" is this: We get everyone who's participating into a lobby, and everyone picks either a specific car or class. I'll write down one choice from each person and assign each choice a single number, then use a number randomizer to pick from all of the suggestions to be that race's car. If many people make the same choice, then obviously the chances for that car/class will be higher, but it will still be a random pick. Once the specific car is chosen (or class and then everyone picks the car from within that class), we'll then have a short practice, qualifier (or maybe no qualifier), and sprint race of 25-40 minutes (to be determined). The Sprint Race would happen on tues, Weds, or Thurs some time between 5-8pm PST (8-11EST), to be decided later by what works best for everyone interested.
My thinking behind this is to have a sprint race where there's no real time for people to practice ahead of time with that specific car, to build a perfect tune for that track and try to keep people on a more-level playing field for those who are not as skilled at tuning. I could even make it a forced-stock tune race for the sprint, but I'll leave that option open for now. That race would happen during the week, then on the weekend we'll have the Main Race on the same track as the Sprint, but using the main cars for that race that people have had time to practice and tune for a long race.
Points would be something like 40sprint/60main or 50/50, to be decided later.
I will send messages out to everyone involved in NACRA to bring attention to this event, and then if turnout seems low I will make a post on the PCars forum promoting this series after a few days have passed.
If I get enough people interested, I hope to have details finalized some time next week (Jan 11-15), with first race to happen the following week (sprint on Jan 19-21 and main on Jan 23 or 24). Many of you are familiar with how I ran the GT3 series over the Summer, and you can expect me to put in the same level of attention, effort, and fairness on this series as I did previously.
Let me know if you're interested ASAP, I hope to get this thing moving and not sputtering out. If you are interested, let your friends know too! The more, the merrier!
